Phase Selection Heuristics for Satisfiability Solvers

چکیده
In general, a SAT Solver based on conflict-driven DPLL consists of variable selection, phase selection, Boolean Constraint Propagation, conflict analysis, clause learning and its database maintenance. Optimizing any part of these components can enhance the performance of a solver. This paper focuses on optimizing phase selection. Although the ACE (Approximation of the Combined lookahead Evaluation) weight is applied to a lookahead SAT solver such as March, so far, no conflictdriven SAT solver applies successfully the ACE weight, since computing the ACE weight is time-consuming. Here we apply the ACE weight to partial phase selection of conflict-driven SAT solvers. This can be seen as an improvement of the heuristic proposed by Jeroslow-Wang (1990). We incorporate the ACE heuristic and the existing phase selection heuristics in the new solver MPhaseSAT, and select a phase heuristic in a way similar to portfolio methods. Experimental results show that adding the ACE heuristic can improve the conflict-driven solvers. Particularly on application instances, MPhaseSAT with the ACE heuristic is significantly better than MPhaseSAT without the ACE heuristic, and even can solve a few SAT instances that remain unsolvable so far.

Captain Jack: New Variable Selection Heuristics in Local Search for SAT
Stochastic local search (SLS) methods are well known for their ability to find models of randomly generated instances of the propositional satisfiability problem (SAT) very effectively. Two well-known SLS-based SAT solvers are SPARROW, one of the best-performing solvers for random 3-SAT instances, and VE-SAMPLER, which achieved significant performance improvements over previous SLS solvers on S...
متن کاملExact Max-SAT solvers for over-constrained problems
We present a new generic problem solving approach for over-constrained problems based on Max-SAT. We first define a Boolean clausal form formalism, called soft CNF formulas, that deals with blocks of clauses instead of individual clauses, and that allows one to declare each block either as hard (i.e., must be satisfied by any solution) or soft (i.e., can be violated by some solution). We then p...
متن کاملHeuristics for Planning with SAT
Generic SAT solvers have been very successful in solving hard combinatorial problems in various application areas, including AI planning. There is potential for improved performance by making the SAT solving process more application-specific. In this paper we propose a variable selection strategy for AI planning. The strategy is based on generic principles about properties of plans, and its per...
متن کاملA Max-SAT Solver with Lazy Data Structures
We present a new branch and bound algorithm for Max-SAT which incorporates original lazy data structures, a new variable selection heuristics and a lower bound of better quality. We provide experimental evidence that our solver outperforms some of the best performing MaxSAT solvers on a wide range of instances.
متن کاملInstance-Based Selection of Policies for SAT Solvers
Execution of most of the modern DPLL-based SAT solvers is guided by a number of heuristics. Decisions made during the search process are usually driven by some fixed heuristic policies. Despite the outstanding progress in SAT solving in recent years, there is still an appealing lack of techniques for selecting policies appropriate for solving specific input formulae. In this paper we present a ...
